Problem Statement

There are several services which have or could have ActivityPub functionality:

	* Gancio (natively or via RSS feed)
	* Discourse
	* Classifieds (via RSS feeds)
	* Mastodon?
	* Pixelfed?

Ideally, these would not all be on separate subdomains, but would instead have some cohesiveness.

Calendar (Gancio)

On 2025-04-29, Tony Grosinger and John Vechey met and decided to proceed with the current OrcasHub Events section and pause on investing in Gancio. After putting together a detailed comparison, it was decided that the amount of work required was similar on the two projects, but Tony's familiarity with OrcasHub, and the user interface being closer to our end goal were benefits that gave it a slight edge.

Goals and desired features

	* Anyone can create an event.
	* Locations have at least a date, time, description, location, and tags.
	* A tagging mechanism which allows restricting tags to specific individuals.
	* Ability to import events from other calendars (okay if it requires custom code).

Event Calendar

The Event calendar on OrcasHub is place where anyone can post any event they have and want to invite the community to. It aims to reduce the confusion caused by the proliferation of siloed individual calendars (see List of Calendars) by creating a single calendar that can import events from other calendars, and also be embedded on other websites.

What is OrcasHub

OrcasHub started as a passion project by an individual living on Orcas to create a suite of online tools for residents where they can share, collaborate, and communicate. It began in early 2023 with the classifieds, quickly expanded to include an

Event Thoughts
