UX Thoughts
A design thoughts page to brainstorm / discuss Orcas Hub user experience. Loose order of priority based on placement in list.
Event Thoughts
- The calendar view seems like a pretty useless view in general. It lacks the benefit of the expanded google calendar (see Odd Fellows calendar), and there's too many events for two months
- Potential Solutions
- Move it to a time view, like next three days or next week
- Get rid of it all together
- Radically change the view to include some events and list them out
- Too many events listed overwhelms and provides marginal use without filters
- I think we need a default filtered view, obviously this brings the challenge of editorial but I see no way around that for the default view
- If you go to collections you can “Show Collection in home” which lets the main page be a default collection.
- Places and Types are mixed together in collections and tags
- I think we should have collections be types of events, and then have a separate list of default places to sort. This will require us to do some new feature work and design work, but I see no way around that.
- Before jumping there we should try to see how good we can make it without feature / design work.
- Idea: label venues with “Venue-” in collections, it would lump them together and differentiate from genres (note: it looks horrible)
- Big lists of text are visually…. lacking
- It seems like it would be nice to lean onto images when events have them, most calendars do so on other pages (library, chamber)
